Terrarium For Achatina

Terrarium For Achatina

Recently, the content of Achatina at home has gained great popularity.

For breeding Achatina terrarium is required. It can be made from a small aquarium. Any glass or plastic container is also suitable. One snail needs 10 liters of volume. The size of Achatina will depend on the size of the terrarium: the larger the room, the larger its inhabitants will grow.

Terrarium for Achatina must be covered, as snails can crawl out of it. But in the lid you need to make holes for ventilation.

Soil consisting of peat, sand and humus, bark of coniferous trees, a filler of wood pellets for a cat’s toilet, sawdust, peat, sand, hazelnut shells or walnut kernels are always placed on the bottom of the terrarium. You can use the primer for indoor flowers or coconut filler for the terrarium. The layer thickness should allow the snail to dig completely (5-7 centimeters).

It is undesirable to use pebbles: snails can fall and get hurt.

Soil requirements:

Before laying in the snail terrarium, the soil is calcined for about 10 minutes in the oven to kill insect larvae.

Since Achatina are tropical inhabitants, they love heat (about 25 degrees Celsius). You can keep them at room temperature, but then their mobility decreases. At temperatures above 35 degrees, the snails fall asleep.

For heating, you can use a conventional incandescent bulb. It is better to put the heater outside so that the snails are not burned.

Direct sunlight harms the Achatina. Therefore, the aquarium for snails is covered with a lightproof film or painted over.

They do not like snails and drafts.

It is necessary to maintain the humidity of the air and soil in the terrarium using a conventional sprayer.

Humidity is judged by the behavior of snails. If there is a lot of moisture, then Achatina will constantly sit on the walls of the terrarium. If it is not enough, then the animals will hide in the sink. If soil moisture is suitable for snails, then they will be in the daytime in the soil, and at night crawl along its surface.

The snail room requires regular cleaning.

Excrement is removed from the soil surface once a month. It is believed that if they are not removed for a long time, then they affect the development of Achatina, delaying it.

The walls of the aquarium and dishes for food and water are washed with a hard sponge as they become dirty (at least twice a month). Never use detergents. They can lead to poisoning and death of your pet.

Every six months, a general cleaning of the aquarium with a complete replacement of the soil is necessary.

A moss rug will serve as a wonderful decoration of the terrarium, and snails will delve into it with pleasure. But it requires adequate humidity. If there is little moisture, then the moss dries. With high humidity, it begins to rot.

It is not recommended to place a mini pool near the wall of the molluskaria: snails can fall into it and drown.

Snails are unpretentious animals that do not require special attention. Crescent can do without water and food. They are ideal pets for lazy and very busy people.

Watching Achatina will bring you many pleasant minutes.
